One of the most frustrating things for me – is when a dealer sells a vehicle with only one key! I simply do not understand it. There you have your new purchase, worth potentially thousands of pounds and only one chance to keep it safe. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like those odds! So, if you have been sold a car with one key, recently lost your spare key, or are in need of a key to be fixed, then take it from me, it is not worth the risk to leave it this way. A spare key is a far easier, far cheaper, and all around easier process, rather than being in an “all keys lost” and an all around nuisance of a situation.
Since 1995, all vehicles manufactured and sold in the United Kingdom, were required to be fitted with an immobiliser system. This system dramatically reduced vehicle thefts, as only keys that had a transponder chip specifically programmed to that vehicle, would start the vehicle. So, in other words, if your vehicle is newer than 1995, then getting a spare key and having it copied alone, still will not allow you to start your vehicle. The key must be programmed to the vehicle first. Luckily, here at Jims Auto Keys, we can provide this service to you, from start to finish.
